Product Data Management (PDM) controlling at EADS (Mini-Case Study: 7.2)
Q. Which
advantages do the PDM-based controlling system have over the EVA method
discussed above?
At EADS, the PDM based controlling system can
have many advantages over the EVA method, such as helping in establishing and
managing the automated workflow-driven processes that will reflect the company's
specific practices for change planning, and change verification. A PDM system also
can support other established processes and capabilities that will enable both
internal teams and external partners to participate in the product life cycle.
Also, the controlling system will track changes in terms of any additional requirements
or specifications that might occur during the project implementation. On the other hand, the EVA method will only measure the project's progress at any given
point and will forecast its completion date and final cost by providing an
objective measure of accomplishments and accurate status.
